First Communion is the first time a Catholic receives the Eucharist. The Church teachers that:
"(The Eucharist) is the source and summit of all Christian life. In the Eucharist the sanctifying action of God in our regard and our worship of him reach their high point. It contains the whole spiritual good of the Church, Christ himself who is our Passover. Communion with divine life and the unity of the people of God are both expressed and effected by the Eucharist. Through the eucharistic celebration we are united already with the liturgy of heaven and we have a foretaste of eternal life." The Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (274)
Children. . .
. . . receive their First Communion after they have reached the "age of reason" (7 years old).IF they have been part of the religious education program at St. Teresa's for at least two years they will make their communion at the normal time. If however they are older, they are enrolled in our RCIC program (See "I want to get baptized") and will receive their first Communion at the Easter Vigil with the adults.

Adults . . .
. . . who wish to make their First Communion must enroll in the RCIA program Adults can begin at any time in the year, but please note that we require people who wish to make their First Communion to participate in the RCIA for at least one year. Adult participants in the RCIA receive their First Communion on the night before Easter (the Easter Vigil).
